Twitter Weekly Updates for 2009-10-25

  • Ordered student upgrade. Didn't realise I wouldn't get a burnable ISO. Can't use upgrade disc to clean install, so (cont) http://tl.gd/oi8e #
  • Spent 2 days with Win7 & researching license/activation issues. I'm convinced it's a good OS doomed to failure by MS's draconian policies! #
  • RT @Godzilab: iBlast Moki update 1.1 has been rejected. Still waiting for an explanation. #
  • Thanks Apple! My dreams of using incremental ZFS snapshots & 'ZFS send' for backups has been dashed! I'm still keeping my ZFS-based server. #
  • RT @majicDave: FYI adobe, 2k games, unchecking the New Zealand box in iTunes connect is a giant 'Fuck You' to an entire country. #
  • I think Amazon dropping Sprint as their Kindle wireless carrier is more a blow to CDMA than to Sprint. It reinforce (cont) http://tl.gd/o7n2 #
  • Meanwhile, regular TV to remain free. Another good thing ruined by the entertainment industry. Thanks News Corp! #
  • Hulu's Alec Baldwin & entertainment exec aliens want to reach inside your wallets with their tentacles & charge for access next year! #
  • RT @daringfireball: Zed’s Dead, Baby. Zed’s Dead.: http://✪df.ws/dzt – Gruber on the end of Mac ZFS & word of next-gen fs in dev at Apple. #
  • RT @AppAdvice: StoneLoops! Of Jurassica Pulled From The App Store At MumboJumbo’s Request http://bit.ly/11APMo #
  • Not surprising since support was yanked from 10.6, but according to Apple: "The ZFS project has been discontin (cont) http://tl.gd/o61n #
  • Not sure what MS was thinking though, as unless you know how to create an ISO, the digital download doesn't allow clean installs or backups #
  • It seems all the req files are there though, so I created a custom ISO & it installed fine in VMWare. Not an official ISO, but it works. #
  • I didn't order the backup disk, thinking the download would be a burnable ISO. It's not! Thanks MS & DigitalRiver for your stupid box format #
  • Even though I'm a Mac Geek, I still pre-ordered Win 7 Pro for $29.99 to run in Bootcamp. Student promo price can't be beat. #
  • RT @seankovacs: #appleneedstoapproveGVMobileAGAIN #
  • Hopefully Apple's new Bootcamp drivers will finally allow the keyboard backlight to be completely turned off & support 64-bit on MacBooks. #
  • Apple on Win 7 support in Bootcamp: http://bit.ly/40HE7m. Coming later this year, but the current drivers seem to work fine for me. #
  • What does the number below the @ in profile view in Tweetie 2 mean? Mine is #2,239,731. Just curious. #
  • Perhaps Chrome OS? – RT @iTod: so what will Google announce/leak tomorrow to upstage Windows 7 release? #
  • The Spotlight mds process has been going crazy on Snow Leopard, so I ran "sudo mdutil -avE" to delete & recreate Spotlight index. Better now #
  • Logitech's Bluetooth mice have a 4 month battery life too (same as Apple), but their 2.4ghz unifying mice last up to 15 months. #
  • Apple Magic Mouse runs on 2 AA & claims they will last 4 months, quite a bit less than Logitech's Unifying mice (but BT is power hungry) #
  • The other really neat thing out of Apple today is Target Display mode on the new 27" iMac. Where's HDMI though? #
  • Now to decide whether it's worth upgrading my VX Nano to a Magic Mouse or one of the new Logitech unifying mice which work on glass. #
  • Love the Magic Mouse design & multi-touch, but too big for portable use? Also would have liked to see some more supported gestures (pinch). #
  • RT @TUAW: New unibody MacBook loses two ports http://bit.ly/PQINl [post] – No Firewire, Audio Input & SD card slot #
  • It was time for Apple to update the little white plastic remote that's been out for years. Aluminum looks great, but where's the new feat? #
  • Dropbox iPhone app update 1.0.1 now available! Brings OS 3.0 support & some bug fixes, no new features. Get it! #
  • Looks like another full day of Tweets coming up tomorrow. I'm Looking forward to Apple's mice & multi-touch gadget & impressive iMac! #
  • I actually would like an Android phone to supplement my iPhone. Hopefully the Droid will be available sans contract and in a GSM variant. #
  • Hopefully the Android competition can force Apple (& AT&T) to improve, innovate & open up the iPhone platform! #
  • I'm not sure if Droid can rival the iPhone, but damn if Android isn't getting a lot more interesting (w/ 2.0 on horizon & Verizon support) #
  • I like the Motorola Droid ad cause it makes a good point – iPhone doesn't have but needs: open dev, removable battery, simultaneous apps #
  • Google Sync contact limitations: Up to 3 email address, 2 Home #'s, 1 Home Fax, 1 Mobile, 1 Pager, 3 Work, 1 Work Fax # & no addit fields. #
